Top tips for selecting a locksmith

Locksmith scams are a serious and growing problem in the UK. These scams exploit vulnerable consumers, often locked out of their homes or dealing with emergency situations, by charging excessive fees, providing poor workmanship, and operating without accountability.

  • Ensure that the locksmiths are Insured, have a DBS check and have public liability insurance as a minimum.

  • Be aware of companies that advertise to be local but have national rate numbers such as 0800 0300 etc.

  • Always ask for Id when the locksmith arrives.

  • Read the reviews that other customers have left.

  • Avoid what we call in the industry a '£49er'.  These are companies within the locksmith industry that advertise a sponsored ad on Google. Prices start anywhere between £29 to £49 pounds to change a lock. You as the customer will never pay that price! It is normally considerably more.

  • A trained locksmith will never just turn up with a drill. We have the skills to gain NON DESTRUCTIVE entry. The drill is the very last option.
